Kathleen and Steve’s day was filled with laughter, love, good friends and family. Not even before we got to the front steps could we already hear the sound of laughter that continued to echo throughout the rest of the day. Steve and Kathleen seem to be that kind of couple – when people are around them there is definitely laughter with a few hugs too (which Tom, Kathleen’s Dad greeted us with as we met him at the door). The gorgeous flowers from Make My Day Flowers were also ready and waiting on the doorstep.
All of the girls chose their own navy dress, which for anyone who has been a bridesmaid knows that it is something special to be able to have a dress that you very likely will wear again!
Do you know those moments they talk about in movies where a person actually covers their mouth at the sheer awe of something? That is exactly what happened when Tom saw his beautiful daughter in her wedding dress for the first time.
And in a surprising turn of events to keep things on time the bridesmaids set to work to get Kathleen’s wedding dress done up properly before the big show. By Kathleen’s face you would never know the bridesmaids were performing surgery on her dress to get the beads in place, and back on right.
My Mom and I are always so excited to shoot first looks, they are straight out of a fairy tale – that moment when the two of them meet up together for one of the most important days of their lives. This was no exception – although the high 5’s were maybe a first for us!
The wedding party then wandered their way through Calgary’s Prince’s Island Park for some amazing photo ops with everyone jumping into the shade whenever possible to cool down, the sun was definitely out for the day.
With all the hard stuff out of the way they were off to be married by John Pentland at Hillhurst United Church, a long time place of home for Kathleen’s family and an absolutely beautiful building to have a ceremony in.
The reception followed at Last Best Brewery – another amazing location of the day! It was such a cool setting for a night of dancing and celebrating.
Congratulations Kathleen and Steve!!
